Canny ChengFinance Co-Chair
Canny Cheng holds the Finance Committee Co-Chair position. Sharing her same vision of helping the Asian community, Canny joined NAAAP in 2009. In her own words, Canny believes that ‘NAAAP Chicago is a platform for different Asian communities to connect to each other. NAAAP Chicago focuses on developing leaders and those leaders reach out different communities to help them become stronger and better.’
She holds valuable non-profit experience and is instrumental in helping NAAAP Chicago to establish its financial structure, preparing financial statements to support key decision making and establishing a set of effective and realistic financial reporting. She has already helped NAAAP Chicago to set up a series of internal control processes and establish forms for keeping track of our financial information.
Canny is currently a Senior Auditor for mainly Not-For-Profit clients in the Midwest region at Blackman Kallick LLP, a Chicago-based accounting firm. She holds a Masters degree in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign. She is a CPA in the State of Illinois and the member of AICPA and Illinois CPA Society. Her hobbies range from reading, watching movies, karaoke to tennis, outdoor activities, traveling and cooking.
Parita Patel
Women In NAAAP Committee Chair
Parita Patel joined NAAAP Chicago in 2008 through a corporate membership with General Electric. Within five months of joining, she assumed the leadership role to spearhead the Women in NAAAP Committee. As the Committee Chair, Parita drives the organization’s passion for making a difference in helping Asian women progress in leadership. Additionally, Parita is leading the efforts through the organization of the Women in Leadership inaugural event taking place in the summer of 2009.
Parita is an Aeronautical Engineer and has worked in the aviation/aerospace industry for companies including British Airways and Honeywell in Europe, Asia, and the United States. She currently is a Product Line Leader within the Rail Leasing business unit for General Electric. Within the organization, Parita is working on an internal GE initiative focused on Asian Women in Leadership, and uses this and her experience within NAAAP to continue to drive the success of both efforts.
Parita holds a Masters Degree in Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College located in London. During her free time, Parita loves to ski, travel, read, or work on a scrapbook.
