CHICAGO – The National Association of Asian American Professionals in Chicago extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Judge Sandra Otaka, the first Asian American elected judge in Cook County and a fearless advocate for Asian Americans in law and politics.

A passionate and staunch defender for the Asian American community, Judge Otaka died Saturday, June 6. Her story of success and years of dedicated service to our organization, the city and government, have paved the way for the next generation of Asian American leaders in our community to become involved and to run for office themselves.

We have lost a visionary, leader and friend. However, the legacy she’s left behind is an invaluable example of the leadership we Asian Americans are able to attain.
