CHICAGO – Rose Tibayan, NAAAP Chicago’s Vice President for Strategic Development, has been appointed Media Chair for the Asian American Coaltition of Chicago's 27th Annual Lunar New Year Celebration (www.aacchicago.org).
Tibayan's role will include the recruitment and management of media personalities for the event. “I am excited,” she said. “The participation of local media personalities has been an important tradition for the Lunar New Year Gala. As former broadcast journalist, I know that it takes great talent to host celebrations of this size.”
In addition, she will work closely with members of the Program and Political committees of the event. “As a Filipino American, I am only too happy to assist the Filipino American community as the host group for the 2010 banquet," she added.
Since 1984, the Asian American Coalition of Chicago (AACC) has worked to unite and bring together more that 16 local Asian and Pacific Islander communities—each of whom gets a turn to host the annual event. The 2010 event, themed, "Bridging Generations and Culture for Progress," will be hosted by the Filipino American community on January 23, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare.
As Vice President of Strategic Development for NAAAP Chicago, Tibayan is responsible for the successful execution of roles and responsibilities by all directors as well as the overall development of the organization. She believes that her involvement in AACC will be beneficial for NAAAP Chicago as a whole. "Officers of NAAAP Chicago have always been present at AALC banquets over the course of the gala's history. But the new tie with the AACC will further strengthen NAAAP Chicago's bond with the greater Asian American community."
Rose Tibayan joined NAAAP Chicago in October 2007, and was immediately elected to the local board as Marketing Director. She is an award-winning executive producer and seasoned journalist with over a decade of experience in broadcast writing, editing and producing. Prior to moving to Chicago, she was a general assignment reporter at WPVI-TV (ABC6) in Philadelphia - the news leader in the nation's fourth-largest market. She has also worked for TV news stations in New York City, Milwaukee, Fort Myers, and the island of Guam.
Rose holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Delaware.
