NAAAP Chicago Event Recap
03

"Today was my first swim meet," said a 7-year-old boy at the 15th Korean American National Sports Festival. He had just finished last in his race, but still shook the hands of other kids around him. From the sound of his voice, I could also tell that he wanted another chance.

Do you see this young athlete emerging as a leader when he gets older? Can you envision him being the captain of his high school swim team and staying a few minutes after practice to work on his back stroke? This is the type of potential that should inspire us to volunteer time and time again in the community. With volunteers from NAAAP Chicago among several others, the Korean American Sports Council of Chicago was able to find 18 people (3 required per lane) to capture and record race times at the pool. With volunteers at the end of each race, these kids were also congratulated for winning and at the very least, for doing their best. Our hope is that they will go on to be leaders, as each of the volunteers was that day.

Thanks to Marian Lee and the Korean American National Sports Council of Chicago for giving us an opportunity to help at the Korean American Olympics! Specials thanks also to our NAAAP Chicago volunteers, including Christine Ma, Rey Cruz, Kevin Tung, Lisa Suarez, Harvey Look, Tran Le, Yoojin Kim, and Alexander Li for taking the time to be with us!
